It is rightly said, death is not in anybody's hand...it comes when it has to, so why to think about it?...but sometimes life brings one to an edge where he feels that death is better than living. Who can know this better than Aruna Shaunbag who is battling for survival since last 37 years and can't even end her life as the court turned down the euthanasia petition filed on her behalf.
'EUTHANASIA' the term became very popular after the movie 'Guzaarish' released, and mercy killing became a debatable issue. As for the readers information euthanasia means painless killing of person who has a painful incurable disease or incapacitating disorder. It has been a controversial issue because Indian law has always been in favor of natural death and whether it be mercy killing it was considered as a crime...but Aruna's case brought about a change in thinking of Indian law makers, and in its landmark judgement it allowed passive euthanasia in India which meant withholding the treatments such as antibiotics or machine vital for the continuance of life.
The case became a blessing in disguise for many other patients.
As in my personal opinion, consent should be given to active euthanasia as well because living a life where one can't respond is equal to death...and such a life gives immense pain not only to the sufferer but also to the people who see them in this pathetic condition everyday. as there are no possibilities for the patients to recover, the best way to assuage them from their pain is euthanasia.
I remember hearing this term 'euthanasia' for the first tym back in september 2010 on a phone call and i just couldnt get the word...research and recent news has helped me understand this 'deathly life' situation much better...nice way of portraying the concept in a concise manner...good going :)
